How To Reach

Haridwar is the primary point of the trek which is easily accessible by road, rail, and air as well. You can take a road trip through the motorable roads of national highway 58 which connects the metropolises and other towns to this beautiful city. There are several buses that run between Delhi and Haridwar on a regular basis making Haridwar a well-connected destination. The railway from major cities like Delhi and Dehradun connects to Haridwar railway station located at walking distance of a number of hotels. You can board a flight to Jolly Grant Airport which is located 36 km from Haridwar. You can conveniently find taxis and cabs from the airport to reach Haridwar. 

 

Base Camp

The place is popularly known as “Mini Switzerland” among travelers and trekkers, chopta is a hill station which is in the middle of the mountains of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 2600m. The initial point of the trek is the famous Tungnath temple. The views here are mesmerizing and boastful as well because of the Himalayas with many flora and faunas to admire. Brief About Locals

Haridwar is a city of saints that is located at the base of the Shivalik ranges of Himalayas. It lies in the flow of the divine river Ganga, which holds previous value. The local residents are very welcoming because of the fact that thousands of devotees gather in this blessed city to offer prayers and take a dip in the holy river Ganga. Elevation Points

The trek will take you from the holy city of Haridwar towards Devariyatal lake which is located at an altitude of 2440m. The gorgeous locals offer a stunning panoramic view of the Chaukhamba ranges. Further on your trek you will pass by Chopta which is at a height of 3000m with beautiful views, continue your trek and you will encounter the destination of Tungnath at an elevation of 3680 m and you will eventually arrive at a mystical Chandrashila top which is at a height of 4130 m.

 

Permit

The required entry fees are certain checkpoint permits for the trek and are obligatory forest camping charges in the region for the entire length of the trek, and they will be included as a part of the package. 

 

Medical Advice

A well – equipped first aid kit will be available with guides during the trek. It is advisable to carry your own personal supply of first aid terms such as antiseptics, insect repellents, prescription drugs etc. all precautionary measures shall be taken. It is always recommended to learn general knowledge of healthcare in case of emergencies. The emergency resuscitation or CPR and other common medical knowledge about altitude sickness. Very common disorder is acute mountain sickness which is associated with trekking besides symptoms, it ranges from headaches, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues, lung problems and more. Before taking medicines consult your doctors to acquire prescription drugs and only consume them if it is really necessary, as it will have powerful and strong effects.

If you are trekking for the first time then this is the perfect trek to enjoy the thrill of the Himalayas. Prepare thoroughly with regards to clothing and other protective gears to endure the unpredictable mountain weather. Keep your trekking gear safe and always keep essentials such as wind proof jackets, dry pair socks, caps and gloves as well. Make sure you choose a good quality of footwear. Wear the right kind of socks with sweat control properties and waterproof qualities as well. One should build their leg strength and ample gym training. Practice using your backpack and choose wisely with adjustable strips when buying, use a good quality walking pole and yes of course remember to enjoy yourself while hydrating yourself frequently.

Attractions

 

Haridwar

It is considered as one of the major religious landmarks in the uttaranchal region. Nov- vegetarian food and alcohol is not permitted inside Haridwar.there are various points of interest in city with major ones being Har Ki Pauri, Chandi Devi Temple, Mansa Devi Temple etc. it’s considered to be one of seven holiest cities in Hindu Mythology with Varanasi generally being considered holiest of all.

 

Devariyatal

It is a lake located 3 km uphill from villages of Mastura on Chopta road, the lake is known for its beautiful panoramic views of mountains like Chaukhamba in the backdrop. The place holds a religious significance in Hindu Mythology as fabled Indra taal where Pandavas were questioned by the Yakshas. Trekking routes to both Chopta and Tungnath from this point.

 

Chopta

It is an unspoiled natural beauty destination which lies in the laps of Uttarakhand Himalayas which offers amazing views of imposing Himalayan ranges including Trishul, Nanda Devi and Chaukhamba. It is popularly known as the base camp for Tunganath trek. The place has a very cool and pleasant climate from March to May which invites a lot of tourists to enjoy the hill station. During the time, the sky is clear and peaks are clearly visible and thus it is the perfect time to visit Chopta for Tunganath trek. 

 

Tunganath

It is the highest Shiva Temple in the world and is one of the five and highest Panch Kedar Temples which is located in the mountain range of Tunganath in Rudraprayag district, in the Indian State of Uttarakhand. The Tungnath which literally means Lord of the Peaks mountain form the Mandakini and Alaknanda river valleys, which is located at an altitude of 3680 m and it is just below the peak of Chandrashila, Tunganath temple is highest Hindu shrine which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is believed to be 1000 years old and is the second in the pecking order of Panch Kedars. It also has a rich legend linked to Pandavas. 

 

Tips And Tricks

  • Hydrate your body two days prior to trek, it means you must triple your water intake to avoid dehydration
  • Choose a shoe size half a number bigger than your normal number. It is really uncomfortable if one chooses a show size which is one number smaller than actual. You can get blisters or sore fingers at the end of the trek to avoid wearing double socks. 
  • In case you carry your camera or phones make sure you carry enough plastic waterproof bags.
  • Once you start trekking along with the entire group try to walk on a normal rhythm. Do not walk too fast or slow.
  • It is advisable to carry a Windcheater, but it’s not advisable to wear it while trekking. During trekking the body produces solid heat and to regulate it, the heated muscles of the body sweats. In a humid atmosphere it is hot and the perspiring situation wears windcheaters. It will lead to suffocated feelings , so it is advisable to put a windcheater in your bag and wear it only when you take a long break.
